Our take

Odoo's CRM is rarely used in isolation, and that's its biggest strength and its biggest catch: leads, opportunities, and forecasting are solid on their own, but the real payoff comes when you connect Sales, Marketing, and Invoicing into one data model. The Community Edition is genuinely self-hostable under LGPL-3.0, and at 52k+ stars it's one of the most established open-source business platforms around. The main caveat is operational weight — this is a full Python ERP, the difficulty rating of 4/5 is earned, and you should expect real effort around upgrades and module compatibility. Be aware too that some features people associate with Odoo live in the paid Enterprise edition, so confirm what's actually in Community before you commit.
