Cabot
Self-hosted monitoring and alerting, a free PagerDuty/Pingdom alternative
Overview
Cabot is a self-hosted monitoring and alerting server built with Django that watches services via Graphite metrics, Jenkins, and HTTP checks, then alerts via SMS, phone, email, and Slack. It was created as a free alternative to PagerDuty and Pingdom for small teams. Note that the project is stable but no longer actively maintained.
Where it falls short of Pingdom
- Not actively maintained; the maintainers are seeking new owners and releases stopped years ago
- Older Django/Python stack with dated dependencies
- No public status page feature
- No multi-region probing; limited to single-instance checks
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
