Wallabag

Self-hosted read-it-later application to save web articles offline

11k PHP MIT 1 month ago

Overview

Wallabag is a mature self-hosted alternative to Pocket and Instapaper that saves full article content for offline reading. It features mobile apps for Android and iOS, browser extensions, e-reader export (EPUB/PDF), and Kindle delivery. Content is stored in your own database with no third-party tracking.

Where it falls short of Pocket

  • Article fetching can fail on JavaScript-heavy pages that require a headless browser
  • The mobile apps lag slightly behind native apps in polish and offline sync speed
  • No built-in social or sharing features

We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
