Overview
Vikunja is a self-hosted, open-source to-do and task management application with multiple views including list, kanban, table, and Gantt. It supports projects, subtasks, reminders, labels, filters, and sharing, with a fast Go backend and Vue frontend. It works well for both personal productivity and small-team project tracking.
Where it falls short of Asana
- More of a task/to-do manager than a full team PM suite; lacks deep agile/sprint tooling
- Limited reporting and dashboards
- Mobile app is community-driven and less polished
- Fewer third-party integrations than Asana
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
