Overview
Tasks.md is a self-hosted kanban task management board where each card's content is stored as a Markdown file on disk. This file-based approach means tasks are plain text, version-controllable with Git, and portable without a database. The web interface provides drag-and-drop board management and ships as a Docker image for easy deployment.
Where it falls short of Trello
- No multi-user support or access controls; single-user by design
- No due dates, labels, priorities, or rich task metadata beyond Markdown content
- No integrations with external services or developer tools
- Lacks swimlanes, filters, and search capabilities found in Trello or Linear
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
