Overview
Sonarr is an automated TV series management tool that monitors RSS feeds from Usenet indexers and torrent trackers, grabs new episodes as they release, and renames/sorts them into your library. It integrates with download clients like SABnzbd, NZBGet, qBittorrent, and Deluge. A calendar view tracks upcoming episodes, and quality profiles allow automatic upgrade when better releases appear. It is the de-facto standard in the *arr media automation stack.
Where it falls short of Netflix
- Requires separate download client, indexer, and media server; not a standalone solution.
- No built-in content streaming or playback; purely a download manager.
- Initial configuration of indexers, profiles, and download paths has a steep learning curve.
- Dependent on availability of content on Usenet or torrent trackers, which is not guaranteed.
