SimpleLogin
Self-hostable email alias service to protect your real address from spam and tracking
Overview
SimpleLogin is an open-source email alias and forwarding service that lets users create disposable email addresses that forward to their real inbox. It ships with browser extensions and mobile apps, and supports custom domains, catch-all aliases, and PGP encryption. The server component is written in Python and can be self-hosted via Docker Compose, with PostgreSQL and Redis as dependencies.
Where it falls short of Gmail / Google Workspace
- Self-hosted instance requires managing its own MX record and email reputation
- No bulk sending or newsletter features; purely an alias/forwarding tool
- Mobile apps connect to SimpleLogin's cloud by default; redirecting to self-hosted requires manual app configuration
- Spam filtering is inherited from the destination mailbox, not provided independently
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
