Omnivore

Full-featured read-it-later app with highlights, notes, and newsletter ingestion

14k TypeScript AGPL-3.0 1 month ago

Overview

Omnivore is a modern read-it-later app focused on long-form reading, featuring text highlighting, notes, PDF support, newsletter ingestion via email, and Logseq/Obsidian integration. The backend is fully open source and self-hostable using Docker Compose, while polished iOS and Android apps are available.

Where it falls short of Pocket

  • The hosted service was shut down in 2024; self-hosting requires Docker Compose and GCP services for some features
  • Self-hosted email newsletter ingestion setup is complex
  • Active development has slowed significantly since shutdown of the hosted service

We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
