Overview
Lightdash is an open-source BI tool that connects directly to your dbt project, turning dbt metrics and dimensions into a governed, self-serve analytics layer. It gives non-technical users a point-and-click explorer while keeping all definitions version-controlled in dbt. It is a strong Looker alternative for teams already using dbt.
Where it falls short of Looker
- Requires a dbt project; not usable as a standalone BI tool without dbt modeling
- Smaller chart/visualization library than Tableau or Power BI
- Some governance, embedding, and enterprise features are reserved for the paid cloud tiers
- Younger ecosystem with fewer connectors and a smaller community than the incumbents
