Overview
KeeWeb is a free, cross-platform password manager compatible with the KeePass database format (.kdbx). It runs as a web app or desktop app and can be self-hosted, syncing databases via WebDAV, Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive. It offers a polished UI on top of the proven KeePass encryption format.
Where it falls short of LastPass
- Project activity has slowed significantly; few recent releases
- No built-in multi-user/team server — syncing relies on external storage (WebDAV/cloud) with no central access control
- Browser autofill and mobile support are weaker than commercial managers
- It is a client over KeePass files, not a true server platform with sharing/policies
