Overview
Grafana Faro is the open-source SDK for real user monitoring (RUM) that feeds session traces, errors, and performance metrics into Grafana dashboards backed by Loki or Tempo. It captures Web Vitals, JS errors, and custom events from browsers, giving teams visibility into user-facing performance without Datadog RUM. The stack is fully self-hostable alongside existing Grafana deployments.
Where it falls short of Tableau
- Requires a full Grafana stack (Loki/Tempo/Grafana) already running
- Session replay feature is less mature than commercial RUM tools
- Dashboard setup requires familiarity with PromQL/LogQL
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
