Buku
Powerful command-line bookmark manager with a personal mini-web
Overview
Buku is a terminal-centric bookmark manager written in Python that stores bookmarks in a local SQLite database. It supports tags, full-text search, encryption, and can auto-fetch page titles and descriptions. A companion web UI (Bukuserver) is available for browser-based access, and the project ships a browser extension for one-click saving.
Where it falls short of Pocket
- Primarily a CLI tool; web UI (Bukuserver) is functional but not polished
- No article archiving, reader mode, or offline content snapshots
- No native mobile apps; sync between devices is manual
- No RSS subscription or feed reading functionality
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
