AUTOMATIC1111 Stable Diffusion WebUI
The most widely used web interface for running Stable Diffusion image generation locally
Overview
AUTOMATIC1111's Stable Diffusion web UI is the de-facto standard self-hosted frontend for AI image generation. It supports txt2img, img2img, inpainting, ControlNet, LoRA fine-tuning, upscalers, and an extensive extensions ecosystem. Runs on consumer GPUs (NVIDIA, AMD via ROCm, Apple Silicon) and can be accessed remotely via its built-in web server.
Where it falls short of OpenAI API
- Development pace has slowed; Forge fork is now more actively maintained
- Requires a capable GPU (8 GB VRAM minimum for most modern models)
- No built-in user accounts or API key auth for multi-user deployments
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
