Publify
Simple full-featured blogging platform built on Ruby on Rails
Overview
Publify (formerly Typo) is one of the oldest open-source blogging engines, built with Ruby on Rails. It provides article and page management, comment and spam filtering via Akismet, a sidebars/widgets system, multiple themes, and basic statistics. It supports OpenID login and AtomPub. Self-host on any Ruby/PostgreSQL or MySQL environment.
Where it falls short of WordPress.com
- Development activity is slow; fewer updates compared to actively maintained blogging platforms
- No built-in newsletter or email subscriber functionality
- Themes and plugin ecosystem are very limited compared to WordPress
- Ruby on Rails stack is less common for hosting, increasing deployment friction
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
