Perkeep
Personal archival system that stores, syncs, and finds your data forever
Overview
Perkeep (formerly Camlistore) is a personal archival and storage system focused on content-addressable storage, giving every piece of data an immutable, permanent identifier. It supports importing from Google Photos, Twitter, Flickr, and other sources, and provides a searchable web UI and a FUSE filesystem mount. All data is stored as blobs, making it inherently deduplication-friendly.
Where it falls short of Google Drive
- Steep learning curve; content-addressable model is unfamiliar to most users
- Web UI is functional but dated compared to modern alternatives
- Limited active maintenance since Google engineers left the project
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
