OpenBB Terminal
Open-source investment research platform with data from dozens of financial providers
Overview
OpenBB is a free, open-source investment research terminal that aggregates stock, crypto, forex, macro, and alternative data from numerous providers (Yahoo Finance, FRED, Polygon, Intrinio, etc.). It features an extensible plugin architecture, a Python SDK, and a web-based Workspace UI for building research dashboards and running quantitative analysis.
Where it falls short of QuickBooks
- Many premium data providers require paid API keys
- Workspace UI (cloud) has more features than the self-hosted terminal
- Not a budgeting tool; focused on market research, not personal finance
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
