Hexo

Fast, simple, and powerful Node.js blog framework

39k JavaScript MIT 1 month ago

Overview

Hexo is a fast, simple blog framework powered by Node.js, extremely popular in the Asian developer community. It renders Markdown posts through configurable themes and generates a fully static site deployable to any hosting. A rich plugin ecosystem covers sitemap generation, deployment to GitHub Pages, RSS feeds, and more.

Where it falls short of WordPress.com

  • No built-in admin UI; requires CLI or third-party plugins for content editing
  • Plugin ecosystem quality is uneven; some plugins are unmaintained
  • Less active core development compared to Hugo or Eleventy

We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
