ChronoFrame
Personal photo gallery with Live Photos support and an interactive explore map
Overview
ChronoFrame is a self-hosted personal gallery application built with Node.js that lets you manage and browse your photo collection online. It supports Apple Live Photos and Motion Photos, giving animated previews in the browser. An interactive explore map lets you visualise where photos were taken by GPS metadata. It is designed for personal use and deploys as a Node.js application.
Where it falls short of Google Photos
- No built-in face recognition or AI-powered search found in Google Photos
- Sharing albums with external users is limited compared to Google Photos or iCloud
- No automatic cloud backup or redundancy — you manage storage yourself
- Mobile app or PWA upload support is absent; uploading relies on manual file placement
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
