Overview
Calibre-Web provides a clean browser-based interface to your existing Calibre library database, allowing users to browse, search, download, and read ebooks online without running the Calibre desktop app. It supports OPDS for e-reader apps, Kobo sync, user accounts, and optional Goodreads integration. It is one of the most popular self-hosted ebook solutions.
Where it falls short of Plex
- Requires an existing Calibre library (calibre-web does not manage metadata itself)
- No audiobook support
- Read-in-browser experience is basic compared to dedicated e-readers
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
