Overview
AliasVault combines a zero-knowledge password vault with an integrated email alias server, letting users create unique addresses per service without exposing a real inbox. All vault data is encrypted client-side before reaching the server. It is packaged as a Docker Compose stack covering the API, web app, and mail server. The project is MIT-licensed and designed for straightforward self-hosting.
Where it falls short of 1Password
- No official browser extension for autofill comparable to 1Password or LastPass
- Mobile apps (iOS/Android) are not yet available
- Team/business sharing features (shared vaults, access policies) are absent
- Emergency access and account-recovery flows are limited
We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
