Adminer

Full-featured database management in a single PHP file

7.9k PHP Apache-2.0 yesterday

Overview

Adminer is a lightweight database administration tool packaged as a single PHP file. It supports MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQLite, MS SQL, Oracle, Elasticsearch, and MongoDB through a pluggable driver system. It provides table browsing, query execution, import/export, and schema editing. Deployment is as simple as copying one file to a PHP-enabled server or pulling the official Docker image.

Where it falls short of Retool

  • No built-in access control beyond HTTP auth; unsuitable as a team-facing data portal
  • No chart or dashboard visualisation; purely a raw data management tool
  • No audit logging or change approval workflows
  • UI is functional but dated compared to modern alternatives

We list the gaps honestly so you can decide if the trade-off is worth owning your data.
